Does Online Listener require special software to run?

No- Online Listener software is centrally managed and hosted by Online Listener. This means that it does not require you to install any software at your school. The software is provided as a web service, and runs in the visitor's browser. They are not required to run or install anything, and any user with Internet access can use the service.

How will it work at my school?

Online Listener is completely customisable for each school. This means that it can work however you like, but the normal setup is for a group of older students to be trained as listeners, and then reply to conversations on the site.

When you sign up to Online Listener, you will be put in contact with other school staff from across the country. This is a great place to share ideas, and find out some of the best ways to make Online Listener work for your school.

X can create me an email account- why should I use Online Listener?

There are a number of benefits to using Online Listener- for example, a peer supporter can request support from staff. Staff can then view the conversation and add comments and advice directly to the messages for the peer supporter to see.

Owing to its deployment as a centrally maintained web service, Online Listener can provide a secure solution to all schools using the service, standards impossible to achieve in a home made solution. This protection is paramount due to the nature of the sensitive data being stored.

How is your data stored?

All sensitive data is stored using the same encryption algorithm as US government "top secret" classified information (AES-256). This ensures that even if the integrity of our database were to be comprimised, all data will be kept secure.

Passwords are stored using a one way cryptographic hash function (MD5). This ensures that passwords can never be discovered.

Where are your datacentres?

Our servers are located in a secure datacentre in London. Online Listener is provided via multiple Tier 1 and Tier 2 transit feeds with multiple carriers. This ensures a fast and reliable service.
